Flipping through magazines, we see all the latest and hottest fashions out there, but unfortunately we can’t all afford to max out our credit cards on expensive products. That’s why you need to learn how to shop like a pro; getting the most out of your buy and spending as little as possible. Not only that, but you need to be conscious of what you are buying. Try buying pieces that transition from summer to fall and from fall to winter. That way, you’ll not only save money but time too!
Here are some great sale strategies you can adopt every time you go shopping!
- Major chain stores are a great way to find what you’re looking for at a great price. Because they have more merchandise, it’s more likely that more stuff will be on sale since they need to make room for new merchandise!
- Check inventory if you can’t find your size. Bummed out they don’t have your size? Most stores will order whatever item you want in another size, free too!
- Keep your receipts! Most major stores will give you price adjustments if the item you purchased was not on sale. All you have to do is bring in your receipt on the day of the sale and voila, you get some of your money back!
- Inquire about return policy. Big retailers are pretty lenient when it comes to returns, but small boutiques aren’t very forgiving. So think carefully before buying from a store that won’t let you return or adjust the price!
- Wrong-sized items aren’t so bad. A lot of stores will have different sizes at a cheaper price than the popular sizes, but if an item is too big on you buy it anyways. You can get it tailored for very cheap!
- Be friendly to the salesperson. Once you go in there a few times, you’ll have a friend in retail and she can alert you of upcoming sales or any other inside tricks and tips on how you can save more money!

Wide belts are always useful and they are an absolute must-have for this upcoming fall. Use a wide belt on a flowy top or a dress during the summer. Once fall comes, use it over a cardigan to cinch your waist and get a sexy hourglass figure.

Full skirts are a great item not only for the summer but for the fall as well. They are very versatile because you can transition them from day to night. They’re perfect for work, school and play. Knee-length skirts with a drop yoke or extreme A-line look great with a tank or blouse and platforms for the summer. In the fall, add a fitted blazer and gray or black tights.
FEMININE BLOUSES
Embellished tops look great on anyone. They give you a feminine look and they look great with high-waisted shorts or pants. For the fall, pair them with a fringed scarf and a cropped leather jacket to create a powerful contrast; feminine, but edgy too!
FLORAL DRESSES
Sun dresses are my all time favorite summer items, and that’s why I love the fact that I can continue to wear them throughout the fall too! Transition this look by buying darker, more bolder dresses. Buy one in brown, navy, or black printed frocks and pair them with sandals. In the fall wear them with a belted cardigan, tights, and a sexy pair of boots.
VESTS
Vests have always been a favorite of mine. Wear a cute vest over a white tee or tank top, then in the fall wear it over a long sleeve blouse or a tucked in thin sweater.
HIGH-WAISTED PANTS
We all need a pair of black high-waisted pants, because let’s face it, they look amazing! You can buy a pair in a wool blend and wear them during the summer as well as the fall. In the summer, pair them with a navy top and sandals, and in the fall you can wear them with boots and a blouse.
CHUNKY SANDALS
My love affair with chunky sandals started early in the summer. I love the edgy look they give any outfit, and that’s why it’s great that you can wear them not only in the summer, but in the fall too. You thought they looked better naked? Well try them with a pair of tights and a mini and you’ll be amazed. Yes, you can still wear sandals in the fall…it’s the hot thing to do!
CHUNKY NECKLACES
The word chunky comes up a lot this season, and it’s not because I particularly like the word…because I don’t. But chunky necklaces revive any outfit. Center of attention necklaces adorned with big stones look amazing on plain outfits such as a white tee, a strapless dress or a black turtleneck.
